Not too long ago, Google announced that they will be shutting down all Google Business Profile Websites on March 1st, 2024. Users that go to the website after this date, will be redirected to your Google Business Page. However, this will only last until June 10th, 2024. After that date anyone attempting to reach your Google Business Profile Website will be met with a “Page not found” error. Meaning, you could loose out on valuable leads.
Clear Timeline:
- March 1st, 2024: Your site will redirect to your Google Business Page.
- June 10th, 2024: Your site will no longer redirect anywhere and visitors will be met with a, “Page not found” error.
What to do now?
Personally, I’d recommend getting yourself a custom website. Bias, I know. But I don’t mean just from ourselves. If you’re tech savvy enough, you can spin up an instance of WordPress and allocate a couple of hours a day towards building out a nice little site and learn some valuable skills along the way!
Why WordPress though?
It doesn’t have to be WordPress, it could be any Content Management System (CMS), but WordPress is one of the largest on the planet and you’ll not only find a whole lot of recourses about it, but you’ll find that it’s very open. Unlike Wix, for example, you can take your information anywhere. An Open Source CMS can keep you away from the kind of lock-in that Wix, Squarespace and their counterparts employ and really get into the nitty gritty.
Then What?
Once you have your new website, make sure you update your Google Business Profile with it. After all, what use is an awesome new website if people are being sent to the one that Google deleted?
